Dr. Vangrieken is a researcher with European Registered Toxicologist certification, specializing in bioactive compound toxicity and vascular biology. In 2020, he completed his PhD at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, MUMC+, based on a personal PhD proposal titled: 'Placental hypoxia, vascular, and mitochondrial toxicity.' He began his PostDoc in 2020 under the guidance of Prof. Casper Schalkwijk at the Department of Internal Medicine at MUMC+, using state-of-the-art methods and focusing on the toxicity of dietary methylglyoxal, a bioactive compound, within the context of vascular complications in diabetes.
