Prof. dr. Ryoji Nagai

The impact of glycation and succination in health and disease

Ryoji Nagai is a professor of School of Agriculture at Tokai university, Japan. His work focuses specifically on the lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, arteriosclerosis and chronic nephropathy, which have a strong association with Advanced Glycation end products (AGEs) and S-(2-succinyl)-cysteine (2SC). When he was learning analytical chemistry of AGEs at Dr. Bayens lab at University of South Carolina, he found a new post-translational modification product, 2SC in adipocyte, then 2SC research has become part of his life’s work. He enjoys working in the university lab. located in mountainous area with scenic view and cattle farmed at the university.
